How to defend yourself
By Sergeant R. Phillips
Over the past few weeks, Senior Aircraftman Norton - a member of staff at the
squadron - has been running a Mixed
Martial Arts course every Friday evening
for select cadets to participate in.
The main outcomes of the course are
for the cadets to learn how to defend
themselves, grappling movements, how
to read situations and come up with the
best possible plan. So far cadets have
learnt how to effectively throw punches,
how to choke a person and to ultimately
escape a violent situation.
From seeing the cadets participate in
this course, it is obvious that they are
enjoying it, are committed and are willing to learn. Below is what some of them
think of the course. ●
“I decided to do the course because I want to
go into the military and a I need to know how
to defend myself.”
- Cadet N. Cook
“I chose this course because it looked really
fun and I thought I needed some fighting
practise.”
- Cadet P. Boyle
“I am doing this course to have fun and to
learn new skills.”
- Corporal K. Ibbs-George
