Curated by Texas poets Lucy Griffith and Sandi Stromberg along with photographer Jim Bones, Echoes off Canyon Walls opens to the public on January 12, 2018. The exhibit features images by Bones of the entire length of the Cordillera from Alaska to Chiapas, Mexico, which is home to 13 distinct biomes along the Continental Divide. Alongside the photos will be ekphrastic poems selected by Griffith and Stromberg from invited poets. The exhibit remains on display through March 28th. In addition, a limited edition publication of the exhibit poems and photographs will be available for purchase. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or photograph, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. Special presentations and readings are being planned for the weekend! Thank you both so much for your invitation to participate in the ekphrastic poetry project. I’d be delighted to create a poem based on one of these beautiful photos by Jim Bones. It will be difficult to select one photo because they are all inspiring. 4. Photos by Jim Bones 1.
