Annual Awards Banquet
The annual Awards Banquet is
held each January and honors an
Alpine student and local business
leaders with three different awards.
The 2014 recipients and the awards
they received are:
Grace Jahn received the Mr. Jim
Francois - Student of the Year Award
named in honor of Jim Francois, a
strong supporter of Sul Ross
University, Sunshine House, Alpine
Public Library, Alpine High School
graduate scholarships, the
Visitors Center and other
organizations. The Sul Ross Fine
Arts Building is named in his honor.
Elida Polanco received the
Benjamin Berkeley - Citizen of the
Year Award named in honor of Dr.
Berkeley who helped form the
Alpine Commercial Club which is
now the Alpine Chamber of
Commerce. He was the first mayor,
bank president, and was a Texas
state senator.
Elizabeth Young Beam received
the Paul Forchheimer - Business
Professional of the Year Award
named in honor of Mr.
Forchheimer, a longtime civic and
business leader and strong supporter
of Sul Ross University.
