Alpine High’s 100-member marching band, the Buck Band, typically places high in regional competitions. In 2010, they were chosen to represent Texas at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. The 15-member Jazz Band covers all styles of jazz - including improvisation - and dabbles in experimental ensembles. They play at local events, including Alpine’s annual Relay for Life. The Alpine Drumline is the only competitive 2A drumline in all of west Texas. In 2014, the Drumline won First Place in their Division, and the Color Guard placed third. ATHLETICS Buck Stadium was recently renovated from head-to-toe, including BIG BE ND FREE • MARCH the addition of a new track. AHS athletic teams typically make it to the playoffs. This year, the football, girls softball, boys track, and golf team advanced to state-level competition. FFA is big at AHS and students typically place high in competitions. This year was the first time AHS students competed in the “One Act Play” UIL competition; they performed the Insanity of Mary Gerarld and advanced to state. Another first was participation in the “Texas High School Mock Trial” UIL competition; the students advanced to state and are already preparing for the 2015/2016 Mock Trial competition. More could be said, but it’s plain to see...
