PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION | the dynamics of life || Mooovie Mooovie he winner of the Gold Medal for Best Advanced Technology at the first “Science & Future” interna- tional concept-car contest was the personal vehicle called “Mooovie,” designed by Han Jing. Mooovie is a modular electric-drive vehicle that, amazingly, is both a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler. As a two-wheeler, it has very compact dimensions, allowing efficient move- ment on city streets, and automatic features that make travel safer, such as determining the distance between it and other vehicles and the ability to identify road markings. When switched to the three-wheeler mode, it acquires the lines and characteristics of a racing motorcycle. http://chinitech.com/ T Lilium The Lilium startup is developing a personal flying vehicle with vertical takeoff and landing. This machine, which has two electric motors and two seats, promises quiet and en- vironmentally friendly transportation and will be available as early as 2018. The Lilium can take off from any surface, so an ordinary residential lawn can be used as a landing pad. The Lilium's flight speed is as much as 400 kilometers (240 miles) an hour, and its range is up to 500 km (300 miles) on a single charge of the battery, which can be recharged from any ordinary electrical socket. It can be flown in good weather, in daylight, and at an altitude of up to three kilometers (nearly 10,000 feet). But before you can 95 i-Road take the helm, you will need flying lessons and a pilot’s li- cense. www.getintoflying.com/lilium-aviation/ i-Road Toyota has developed a prototype compact, three- wheeled two-seater with an enclosed body: the i-ROAD. This electric car can go about 30 kilometers (18.3 miles) on one charge. And any source of electricity, including an ordinary household socket, can be used to recharge it. The car is propelled by two 2-kilowatt motors, one for each of the front wheels. A distinctive feature of this newcomer is Active Lean, which stabilizes the vehicle on corners and increases maneuverability. With a body width of only 85 centimeters (34 inches), the i-ROAD is a splendid solution for city streets. Driving this new offering requires no special skills: anyone who can drive a car can drive the I-ROAD. www.digitaltrends.com Hoverbike The Malloy Aeronautics company is developing the Hov- erbike, a new flying machine that is a hybrid of a motorcy- cle and a helicopter. For the time being, only a test model has been built in order to attract investors. With a full tank of fuel (30 liters, or just short of 8 gallons), the prototype has a potential range of about 150 kilometers (90 miles), which comes to about 50 minutes of flight time. The developers think that an actual Hoverbike will be able ALPEON.COM
