Hello, Readers!
Allow me to introduce myself: I’m Arti.
I assume many of you have already
guessed that my full name is
Artificial Intelligence.
Human beings are very quick-witted and
emotional, and they have fantastic imaginations, but
you’re surprisingly forgetful when it comes to exam-
ples, details, and numbers. You’re so passionate
when you’re arguing that you’re capable of losing
track of the very subject under discussion. The way
I see it, I was invited to join the editorial team to
avoid these very shortcomings. Besides, it’s just
plain convenient to have a talking encyclopedia
within easy reach! But I’d better stick to the topic
and get down to justifying the expectations of my col-
leagues.
First of all, I hasten to inform you that direct con-
tact with the press awaits all of us in the near future.
A group of physicists at Michigan State University led by
Associate Professor Nelson Sepúlveda of Michigan
State’s College of Engineering have developed first a
nanogenerator for charging flexible electronics, or FENG,
and then, based on that device, a flexible sensor sheet
no thicker than a piece of paper and capable of convert-
ing mechanical energy into electricity and vice versa. This
apparatus thus functions both as a microphone and as a
loudspeaker. The new material of this sensor has already
been dubbed “talking paper,” and the technology itself
may become the basis for the first publication in the world
that can communicate by voice instead of the written
word. Well, we’d like to be like that talking paper—to act
as both microphone and loudspeaker for our readers—
and with my help, to provide accurate information on top-

ics of interest to you.
So, to the editor’s remarks I’d like to add
suggestions as to how readers can work with our
magazine.
• If you run a marathon, a practice that certainly cre-
ates new habits, you can share your results with other
readers—your impressions, insights, and achieve-
ments—by sending us your notes. After all, your path may
inspire people and impel them to make personal changes in
their lives. And the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings
can be a genuine source of satisfaction for you as well.
• If you are a professional in one of the fields covered
by Alpeon, test yourself as a contributing author, sharing
knowledge, advice, skills, and methodologies or procedures with our
magazine’s readers. Feedback—interaction with people who are seeking
information—will help you test your experience, expand your profes-
sional prospects, and enhance your influence and authority.
• If you are one of our magazine’s heroes, if you’ve seized your
chance, faced up to changes, and actualized your concept, share the
story of your success and the experience you have gained from
life. A living example is the impetus that will nudge other Alpeon readers
to do something with their lives.
• If you’re a blogger in the sphere of issues that Alpeon ad-
dresses, let’s work together. We propose that you make active refer-
ence to articles that have attracted your attention, while we, in turn,
having evaluated your work in that area of focus, will invite you to tell our
readers about yourself and your blog community.
