so enjoyable I ended up doing 3 seasons there! I went to Paris with that brand for PFW and I also worked at LFW for a London designer. Interning was an amazing experience, it really opens up your eyes to what the real fashion world is like! I would recommend doing as many different internships as you possibly can! weren’t even paid for that internship, she ended up paying to do all of that! Where do you get your design ideas from? My design ideas can come from anywhere, I am forever taking photos, screenshots, pinning anything that I think is beautiful and interesting. At a later time I spread all the images out and look at them together, usually I find that it naturally creates a story for me to follow. What’s your worst story from being an intern? I was quite lucky with my internships, they were extremely hard with very late nights but, apart from one internship, I always felt valued and appreciated, learnt a lot and felt that I was making a worthwhile contribution. Some of my friends at uni weren’t so lucky and I know one girl that spent three weeks interning and all she ever did was run around London to collect trims and cook dinner for the entire team! – her expenses What do you think makes a fashion company like yours so successful? I think it is very important to do a lot of market research and make sure that you know exactly who your customer is and what they are looking for, and focus on an area they can’t find anywhere else, so you can tap into that. Can you tell us a typical day working on Tasha Jane designs? Each day is so different working on a fashion label, some days I will devote to research and sketching, which can be very calm, but then other days I will be tearing my hair out stitching garments together to make sure that I meet each customers order date! That’s what I love about working on my own label, no two days are ever the same! Do you have a certain muse in mind when designing your products? I have a certain customer in mind when designing, I think that is very important. You have to constantly think, ‘what is she looking for now?’, ‘would she buy this?’ etc etc. Are there any negatives to having your own business? It can be hard to motivate yourself sometimes, when working from home it can be easy to have a little longer in bed and it is easy to become very distracted. You have to really discipline yourself and remind yourself that your brand is your job, you can stay in your pjamas till mid-day, as long as you’ve been up working since eight! You need to remind yourself that you don’t get paid if you don’t get up and do some work! Whats your favourite designer? My favourite designer is Chloe. I love the effortlessly chic femininity of the brand. What does the rest of 2015 have in store for you? Who knows! I would love to grow the brand and expand the collection, that’s what I am currently working on, but I am so excited to see where Tasha Jane can go in the coming year! 30 31 Blouse- Tasha Jayne Designs Continue on to view Tasha Spokes final university collection in the next editorial.
