‘Be brave, stay true to yourself’ back in and usually resolve the problem a lot quicker than when I was flustered and stressed! What advice would you give other final year fashion designers? Don’t stress, eventually!! you will get it done Were you interested in fashion from a young age? Yes! I’ve always loved fashion and knew that this was all I wanted to do from a very young age. Have you had much work experience within design? I interned at a few different places during uni, one of the internships was bouncing ideas off other people. However, I would miss the creative freedom if I worked for someone else, so instead I would love to expand my brand to bring people in to work with me instead! What advice would you give others wanting to start out a new fashion business? Be brave, stay true to yourself and don’t ever give up your dream – with hard work and determination it is possible!! So we love your final collection you created for your grad show tell us a bit more about the concept behind it? It was a crucial moment for me, the biggest project I had ever undertaken and that terrified me! It took me ages to settle on a direction, I ended up completely overthinking it! However I ended up scrapping all my initial ideas and tried to make it very real and very me. I wanted it to be a 28 collection that made people smile and made the wearer feel happy, comfy and safe. The idea was based around a carefree woman, nostalgic and longing for her childhood again, she is living in a dream world; a pink dream world. Pink is central to the collection as the colour conjures up somewhat hazy memories of childhood. Using one colour focuses the attention of the garments to the texture and feel of the fabric, this becomes as important as the colour. The textures themselves are soft, many are fluffy and furry to envelope the wearer in the safe, soft bubble she lives in. Did you ever just want to give up making the collection? Many times! Everything always takes much longer than you anticipate, things always go wrong unexpectedly, it’s a very stressful job! Sometimes I just needed to allow myself to leave the studio and de-stress.
