F
or Linda and Chris, though, life got
rough a few years ago when Linda
was bitten by a tick and wound
up with Lyme disease. “I basically spent
three years lying on the couch,” Linda
says. “My energy levels were at about 20
percent. That was the worst part about
being sick.” On top of that, both she and
Chris were starting to feel the effects
of declining hormonal levels as they hit
middle age. Chris felt like he was dragging,
too. “I could tell I wasn’t as mentally
sharp as I was accustomed to being,
either,” he says. “Things kept getting
worse and worse until eventually I knew I
had to do something.”
By then, Linda had started doing
hormonal replacement therapy (HRT).
First she used cream, then capsules, then
pellets. The pellets, she says, had a much
greater and more positive impact than
the other delivery methods. In fact,
she thinks that using the pellets greatly
contributed towards her recovery from
Lyme disease. “Now my energy levels are
back up to 70 percent of what they used
to be,” she says. “What an improvement!”
Her own experiences with HRT
combined with learning about HRT from
Dr. Mok’s seminars and books convinced
her that Chris would also benefit from
the treatment. (As Dr. Mok points out,
low testosterone levels are associated
with increased chances of cardiovascular
disease, mood and brain disorders, weight
gain, diabetes and sexual dysfunction.)
When she pitched the idea of HRT to her
husband, he was immediately on board.
He had tried using creams in the past, but
those hadn’t had any impact on his day-
to-day health, and while injections had
been better, they were too cyclical. “It
was always up and down—I felt like I was
on a rollercoaster,” he says. The pellets
did the trick. Now, he says, his energy
is much better, his work performance
is much better and he feels much more
motivated. Plus, as he puts it, the “auto-
dispensing” nature of the pellets makes
them “the perfect delivery system.”
Another unexpected bonus of Linda
and Chris both doing HRT is that they
enjoy each other’s company more now
that neither of them is tired or cranky.
Chris continues to work from home as a
software salesman; Linda is retired from
being a pharmaceutical sales rep but
recently started baking again, which has
long been her passion. (She had been a
professional baker until the Lyme disease
forced her to stop.) Their newly restored
good health makes them all the more
eager to spend time together and pursue
an active lifestyle. “When I walk into a
place with my wife and the heads turn—
and those guys are in their 20s and
30s—I love that,” Chris admits.
Linda is equally thrilled that both of them
have opted to do HRT with pellets.“You
guys at Allure are on the cutting edge,”
she says. “I’m always telling my friends and
family about how much HRT has helped
us. It’s such a pleasurable experience
to come here.” Chris agrees, pointing
out that he “doesn’t dread” coming
to his appointments the way he does
with typical doctors. “We also see the
dermatologist here," Chris says. "If there’s
something I can have done at Allure, I’d
much rather do that.” Which is exactly
why Dr. Mok opened his practice: to
make lives better, one at a time. Or
when it comes to Linda and Chris, two
at a time.
