Issue 1 Fall 2012
President’s Corner
Dear Alliance Members,
I am incredibly excited that we have finally launched the
Women’s Golf Alliance (The Alliance).
Women’s amateur golf associations are the best-kept
secret in golf. WGA’s have been supporting women and junior
girl golfers for over 100 years, by offering information and
education and providing developmental programs, competitive
and social golf events, and volunteer opportunities. Through
our member organizations, women and girls who have an
interest in golf are afforded a wide range of individualized
avenues to learn the game and connect with others who play
or teach golf. As grass-roots organizations, women’s golf
associations work to promote golf for women and girls at their
local level.
As we all know, the services provided by these women’s
golf associations can vary, some provide the full spectrum of
handicapping and course rating services, plus championships,
fun golf outings, developmental programs, publications and
educational and outreach programs. Others remain purely
focused on producing a state, regional or national
championship. What we all have in common is that we are
women who love golf. We love to play the game. We love to
promote the game. We love to administer the game. And we
love to have fun doing it.
My personal hope for The Alliance is that our work will
help to facilitate the development of new and awesome
collaborations between golf associations. We’ll need to be
creative and patient; respectful and assertive; fearless and
wise. We represent a minority segment of the golfing
population, which makes us also one of the targeted groups for
growing the game. We have the opportunity to play a pivotal
role as representatives of the female consumer of golf.
I hope to see many new faces at the WARM in 2013, when we
will hold it one week later in March than normal, to
immediately precede the R.R. Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup.
Thank you to the founding Member Associations of The
Alliance.
We hope you enjoy this, our first quarterly publication,
and especially the features that highlight the happenings at
member associations.
