Bond Project Update A llen ISD is looking ahead to a busy summer of construction and renovation projects. The STEAM Center is rising on Ridgeview Drive and the new Lowery Center is taking shape on Greenville Avenue but five more projects will be underway this June. Kerr Elementary School will undergo a complete renovation this summer. The 18-year-old campus will receive new floor and wall coverings, new cafeteria and library as well as new furniture throughout the campus. The renovation is part of the district’s ongoing schedule to bring schools up to current standards approximately every 15-20 years. Work will begin after school closes in June and will be completed by the start of school in August. Phase III of the Allen High School renovation has begun with work expected to be done in mid-August. Portions of the school are being renovated each summer to minimize disruption to the students. This year the library, art rooms, testing rooms and administration area will be redone. The school’s main entry and corridor will also be updated and revised for better safety and security. Last year the school’s gymnasium and cafeteria were updated. The Ereckson Stadium project is scheduled to be done in August 2018. Finally, technology refresh projects will be underway this summer at Boon and Norton Elementary Schools. The refresh projects bring the two schools up to the current standards for the district and will include student devices and staff work stations as well as AV and computer networks. A majority of the projects are funded by the $272.58 million bond proposal which was approved by voters in November 2015. Kerr Elementary School is on schedule to be renovated this summer. Minor work at all three middle schools will modify walls in several classrooms to accommodate the new GEMS (Gifted Education in Middle School) program. A decision was made this past year to expand gifted services at the three middle schools. Ereckson Middle School’s outdoor facilities will also be brought up to par with Curtis and Ford Middle Schools this spring and summer. Work began in April to install lights, build bleachers, install artificial turf and a track at the school. A concession and rest room building will also be added. 16 The AHS library will undergo a complete renovation this summer as part of the phased renovation for Allen High School.
