Champions
T
he Allen Eagles won their first state basketball
championship on March 10. The Eagles were crowned
6A champions in the Alamodome following an exciting
49-47 overtime victory over Katy Tompkins High School.
Allen senior Donovan Parham won the game with an
uncontested layup after senior Jaylen Walker blocked a last
second shot. Parham took the pass in stride near midcourt,
found himself alone behind the defense and drove for the layup
that won the state championship for Allen.
The team finished the regular season with a record of 34-5
and a District record of 11-3. Head Coach Jeff McCullough
commented after the game “…it’s an amazing job by these kids.
I can’t say enough about what they have sacrificed all year long.”
