Student Nutrition had expanded the salad bar to include more vegetarian options but many of them were cheese based. “With the growing number of Indian students at the high school, requests for more authentic Indian food were coming in,” said Thompson. “We had school board member, Vatsa Ramanathan, present to our staff about different styles of Indian cooking. We also had a food tasting so the staff could become more familiar with the foods. As a result, the Market Fresh line is now offering Tikka Masala and we are looking at other foods that might fit onto the menu.” Keeping the menus new and appealing is important, added Thompson, “but it’s our 143 staff members that make our program successful. It’s hard work and our people are very dedicated to their jobs. They see students every day and know many of them by name. Their positive attitude and caring show each day.” many students are eating healthier. It’s a challenge every day but I can’t think of anything more rewarding than making students happy and heathy.” Allen ISD welcomes Jackie Anderson as the new Director of Student Nutrition. Anderson comes to Allen with 33 years of experience. She most recently headed the food service operation for Arlington ISD.
