From Raw Materials to Us – Innovation
Why did it take so long to invent the wheelbarrow or the telephone? Have we hit the peak of
innovation? What our list of inventions reveals about imagination, creativity, and the nature progress?
Through this monthly investigation we aim to answer these important to humankind questions, to
travel back in time, to explore today’s manmade world, to innovate for the future!
Undoubtedly, humans are an ingenious species. Since the moment someone took a rock from
the ground to make the first sharp-edged tool, to the development of Mars rovers and the Internet;
numerous key developments stand out as predominantly innovative. Through hands-on activities and
interactive projects, children will have the unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding how we
came so far in this technological world, and what was the development of our planet. Also, they will
have the opportunity to manipulate certain materials and examine how we used to use them and how
we use those nowadays. Last but not least, it will come visible to their eyes the importance of human
creativity and innovation.

Why Is It Important for VESS?
This monthly topic is a great provoker for inquiry, creativity and innovation. Children will have
the opportunity to discover how we came so far from raw materials to our technological world.
Students will explore materials and they will learn about great innovations and inventions.
