Use dramatic-play activities, and discussions to explore their ideas about stories
and events and their feelings about various groups from diverse cultures or
lifestyles.
Emphasize positive, familiar images of diverse groups. Identify people of diverse
ethnicities, religions and/or lifestyles that children know and who have a positive
place in their lives.
Discuss the many characteristics, values, and experiences the children have in
common with each other.
Explore with your students diverse communities represented in your area.
Read books with your young students that address tolerance, love, friendship
etc. There are many stories appropriate for varying age groups that can help
children think about and define different feelings.
Provide parents with all these kind of information and encourage their
involvement in such discussions and activities.
