Engineers and Architects
General Goals and Objectives:
One of the general goals of VESS curriculum is to develop imaginative, creative and
innovative way of thinking. Certainly, Engineers and Architects is a great provoker for the
accomplishment of all of the above. This monthly topic requires the inspiration of an idea, the
implementation of an action plan, experimentation and reflection. Working cooperatively
students will be encouraged to explore the role of both professions from different perspectives.
More specifically, children will investigate certain tools, examine safeness, understand process,
involve in the development of projects, evaluate effectiveness and design, and value
responsibility. Through hands-on activities students will act out roles of engineers and architects
and with the support of the thinking tools they will gain a deep understanding on how the general
concept of construction works.
Moreover, children will gather and report info for great engineers and architects over the
time and they will travel with their eyes and imaginations around the world’s most famous
buildings and structures. Some examples are the Pyramids of Giza, the Colosseum of Rome, the
Eiffel tower in France, the Taj Mahal in India, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu in Peru,
the Gateway Arch in US and many more! Through these significant explorations students not
only they will connect with the globe but they will also get inspired to design and create their
own unique structure!
