31 When we started, we had the conviction that we could make a difference in the children that assisted our schools. This conviction has evolved over time. We now believe that in addition to making a difference in our children, we can also make a difference in global education and in the world as a whole. As an educational organization we are connected to other educators, to parents, and to communities. This gives us the faculty of being agents of change. We have progressively contacted other educators that share our passion for education, and also want to propagate a widespread sustainable, ethical and thinking culture. In this idea of a thinking culture everyone is, among other things, working to create the awareness that education can change, has changed in many places, and deserves constant change. “A thousand mile journey begins with one step.” Confucius Education is a process that seeks to create thinkers who have ethics, values, knowledge and an open spirit. In edu1st, we develop thinkers that are able to adapt to a world that evolves at a fast pace, thinkers that have the necessary intellectual autonomy to make the decisions needed for their growth and learning, and the necessary social autonomy to tell between right and wrong, choosing to act in favor of the common good above personal interest. Only through Education can we make the world a better place for everyone, while making sure we are leaving it in the hands of better people so they can do the same thing. If we questioned several people about their initial opinion of the philosophical pillars of the VESS model, we would probably find that most of them would see our philosophy as collection obvious elements that don’t need much explanation. However, it’s only after the deep analysis and comprehension of each pillar in our philosophy that the strength of what shapes true ethical and sustainable thinking cultures lays. To accomplish wee have carefully studied the gap between the theory and practice of each element of the model in order to turn each philosophical pillar into a reality.
