Who are you listening to, right now? Who's top of your playlist?
I actually listen to more hip hop than anything else right now. Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown,
Joey Badass, J-Cole, and Milo.
With Into the Deep, the musical arrangement is simply stunning. The song is so
inspirational. I have to ask, what inspired such a beautiful song?
Into The Deep was originally written as part of the score to a play which I co-wrote called The
Trench. The song is about dying and the wish we all have to leave something behind when we're
gone.
Sort of…a legacy. I get that. Do you do all of your own arrangements?
I don't do all the string arrangements myself. I do some but I collaborate closely with a good
friend, Alex Metcalfe. He's a bit of a secret genius. I sing him what I want down the phone and
he turns it into these lush orchestral arrangements.
From the phone? That’s pretty amazing. Out of all of the gigs you've played, is there one
that stands out as being momentous?
Sometimes gigs feel really special, when there's a real connection between the audience and you.
There's been a few like that. They're usually the smaller ones.
Playing with Feist in Brighton was great because I'm a fan. Supporting Paul Weller in Hyde
Park was a bit special because it was my first ever big gig.
Standing where you are now, in life, and looking back, what advice would you give your
ten-year old self?
It's all gonna be ok, it's not gonna feel ok at times. You've got a rollercoaster coming up but just
keep rolling with the punches and you'll be fine. Don't do drugs.
