Scotland: Musical Muse
by heather paige
Music. Scotland. Those two words together form ethereal mental images of a lone bag piper
standing on the hills at dawn playing his mournful song to the coming day.
But, not anymore.
Scotland is fast becoming a hub of cutting edge music where traditional music is reclaimed,
reshaped, and crossing musical genres. No longer steadfast in the shadow of London, Scottish
bands and musicians are stepping out into the light to claim a place in the sun to call their own.
Scotland’s network of artists and musicians are mutually supportive and their fans are
enthusiastic because, quite simply, Scot’s LOVE music. Particularly live music. This symbiotic
connection between artist and fan lends to a creative confluence that, for a tiny nation, breeds big
music.
Here, we chat with three Scottish bands: The Lawless and the Leash, Silvercoast, and All So
Simple.
But there are more, so many more. We encourage you to try them all out, and give them all a
listen. And, most importantly let us know what you think on Twitter heather_paige or
