Flesh Wounds

In approximately 26 minutes, Montgomery Morris, Laura King and Jefe Schilling brought such power and
intensity to the 11 songs that they performed that I had to check my body for a Flesh Wound when they
were done.
At various points during their set I alternated between wanting to dance and wanting to throw an
elbow, two conflicting emotions that Flesh Wounds seem to bring out in a way I’ve never felt before.
Montgomery Morris is so intense that I’m not sure if he was even aware the few times he had the
microphone in his mouth. Jefe Schilling even took a turn at the mic singing the excellent “Magazines”
from their new EP “In The Mouth.”
Let’s not forget Laura King, so powerful on the drums that the next time Dave Lombardo acts a fool,
Slayer should give her a call, she’d be an improvement over him.
Near the end of the set, Montgomery Morris knelt down on the floor by his amp and made his guitar
howl and cry for mercy and he played it, a sight that I will likely never forget.
The set list also included standout numbers, “Kennel Cough,” and “Joy Division Killed My Boner.”
It’s rare a band with this kind of intensity leaves you wanting more, but with Flesh Wounds, I’m not sure
they will ever play long enough.
