Krissy was also kind enough to answer some of Johnny Spice’s questions.
Introduce yourself to the reader:
I am Krissy Nicks, a new artist that has been writing for years, but just recently started
recording. I completed and published my first album ‘Unbroken’ in February 2017. It is a
compilation of 11 songs, some based on personal experiences, some based on the experiences of
those around me. I try and write with the listener in mind and try to make my tracks as relatable
as possible. I like to be personally connected and be able to personally thank my fans for their
comments and feedback. It really does mean a lot to me to hear that someone was touched by
one of my songs.
How do you write songs, music first or lyrics first?
I write my songs a little bit backwards from most artists. I write the lyrics and the melody at the
same time and then send it to my producer and he builds all of the instrumentals around me. I
think it allows the music to compliment the lyrics a little more. I find that if I allow the songs to
come to me, they end up being much better than if I sit down and force myself to write them.
How old were you when you wrote your first song?
The first songs I remember writing were back when I was around the age of 8. I used to love
walking up to people and saying, “Give me a word, any word.” And I would write a poem or a
song about it. Thankfully those no longer exist.
What is the oldest song on the record?
None of the tracks are super old, but I’d have to say the earliest track written on the album
would be Anticipating. Several of the songs were written while the album was already in
production and ended up replacing some of the songs we planned on working on.
What song do you look the most forward to playing live?
I would love to play Beauty live. I think it has such a motivating message to it. There are several
I would love to play live but if I had to pick only one, I would have to go with Beauty.
