“Unbroken”
Krissy Nicks
By
Johnny Spice
On her debut release, Krissy Nicks announces herself as an artist to be
noticed.
This record features not only good music, but the songwriting is of such high
quality, there are several songs on here I could imagine being recorded by
other artists.
For example, “Dungeon,” should be burning up the Jazz charts right now and
becoming a standard all upcoming Jazz singers add to their repertoire.
“Aim for The Fences,” should also be getting played right now on radio. It’s
the kind of song that would make you turn the radio up is it came on.
“Hands on Me,” is a smooth Jazz number of high order.
Heck, “New Life,” is so great a song, not only is the arrangement featured
here kick butt, but I could easily see an artist such as Lennon rearranging in a
style all her own and having just as great a song.
The album closer, “Broken Wing,” makes you wish that there was just one
more song, and to me, that’s always a sign of a good album, it leaves you
wanting more.
The only downside to this record, from where I’m sitting, is that it’s so new,
it will probably be a long time before her next release (although I hope not).
I would rate this a buy, and say it’s on my list of records for the first half of
the year so far. It’s a buy plus, plus.
