Dear ALL FRETS Members:
The following report was presented to the Board of Directors at their meeting during the Buffalo, NY convention:
2018 ALL FRETS FOUNDATION REPORT TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Since the last All Frets convention, the following applications were reviewed, approved and disbursed in 2017 and 2018:
2017
MERCY ASHWORTH, NOEL ASHWORTH, AND ARI ASHWORTH:
Siblings, twelve year old Mercy Ashworth, fourteen year old Noel Ashworth and seventeen year old Ari Ashworth, of Canon, GA
were each awarded ALL FRETS educational grants in the amount of $500 to take lessons from ALL FRETS member Ben Johnson III.
Mercy’s and Noel’s grants were for banjo lessons and Ari‘s was for ukulele lessons. ALL FRETS member Johnny Baier acted as their
sponsor.
2018
JOHN MONTGOMERY:
The 2018 FIGA/EDDIE PEABODY $500 scholarship was awarded to seventeen year old John Montgomery of Ionia, MI to take banjo
lessons from Larry Harvey. Long time ALL FRETS member Lewis Guernsey acted as his sponsor.
In 2016 we had two scholarships awarded for music lessons via SKYPE. Sadly it did not work out well. It was not due to the concept
of SKPYE or the ability of the instructor to teach young students. It was due to the reception of the signal in a rural area that was
not good enough for SKYPE to run efficiently. The instructor has returned the funds to the foundation for the unused lessons. A
check has been issued again with the foundation committee’s approval for lessons in person with a local instructor. This has not
soured our opinion of lessons by SKPYE or by this instructor. We have been informed that he is having no problems with the
computer connections with two other youngsters who do not live in a rural area.
I would like to thank the Foundation committee for their dedication to our organization.
(Dolores Borrow, Vice President Cindee Burkitt, Tom Garren, Barbara Newbauer, Jack LaFond, Karl Markl, Debbie Schreyer).
Funds are available and the committee is ready and willing to review your applications.
Respectfully submitted,
F. Andy Johnson,
Foundation Chairman
