It was different on this day because we hadn’t lost a game all year. But yet here we were losing in the fourth quarter. My son, who was one of two stand-out players on the team, had just been fouled and was about to step to the free throw line for two shots. But instead of focusing on the task at hand, there he stood overwhelmed by the fear of losing, he cried as he took his shots. Frustrated, because I was still coaching to win, I called a quick time-out, pulled him to the side and said to him, “Why should you be crying when there is still time left on the clock?” Sometimes the things that we encounter in life can seem too BIG, too DIFFICULT, too MUCH to overcome. When the largeness of life’s issues become a perceived reality within, it will not be long before defeat manifest itself and is crowned the victor in your life. Like my son, recently I found myself standing at the crossroads of life, facing what appeared to be an insurmountable mountain. My perceived reality was indeed failure. At that moment something I’d never experienced before set in... DEPRESSION. It was the equivalant of standing at a free throw line crying. But that’s when God, who was still coaching to WIN, stepped in and impressed upon my spirit, a similar message that I had given to my son... “Why should you be crying when there is still time left on the clock?” This issue is a testiment of the hope that can be found in Jesus Christ. When life is at its worst, and all seems to be lost, remember...your heavenly father is still coaching to WIN. Simply put... as long as you have breath in your body, there will always be HOPE.
