Candy Canes

Time spent everyday learning the mechanics of shoe tying . Step number one of becoming a big kid . The fake wood shoe , painted red that we used to practice on , and the white and red shoelaces that looked like candy canes ,
Over and over , we would untie the knots that we made on our mess ups . Finally getting it . Doing it so many times , that the ends of the candy canes start to fray . Mom , mom look what I did .
Step number one , check . You master it and done you ’ re set for life . But no one tells what can go wrong . One wrong knot . One wrong step and your on the ground again . Wondering which step you skipped . five , six , seven ? But your back at step one . The candy canes that once made you feel as if you were a new person , now they only give you the feeling that it was all for nothing .
But what if it is ? What if all the things we did right ,
