What is Aleh?

A seed was planted, the trunk took root...

Aleh was established in 1982 by a group of parents determined to give their severely impaired children the best available care and the opportunity to develop to their full potential.
The Hebrew word Aleh means both“ a leaf” and to“ go forward”, because Aleh believes that every child, regardless of his or her disabilities, is a precious bud that can develop and grow into something beautiful.
This approach and steadfast commitment has changed the face of rehabilitative care in Israel. Today, over 650 children with cognitive and physical disabilities receive state-of-the-art medical, educational and rehabilitative care in Aleh’ s four facilities. In addition, Aleh provides close to 18,000 outpatient treatments annually.

At the heart of Aleh’ s success is the intensely personal relationship that develops between caregivers and the special children they care for. Aleh’ s 700 staff members and 250 volunteers develop a close-knit bond that goes well beyond clinical care.
As a result, the children at Aleh are developing far beyond the boundaries of their initial prognoses. Aleh has succeeded in proving that within every child lies the seed of hope and potential, a spirit that can communicate, learn, and enjoy friendship, laughter and love.
Thanks to Aleh, these children are able to live in much the same way as non-disabled children: attending school, participating in vocational training programs and enjoying activities such as swimming at the beach or touring the countryside. Integrative activities involving family, volunteers, school children and IDF soldiers promote inclusion of the disabled within the community at large.
When my child was born, we had no idea what his future would be... Aleh has provided a real hope for our child.
