to bring that into the décor. For example, they could have a guest favour that is a luggage tag, or a passport as part of their invitation. Those are the things that people will remember in the long run. Themes make this easier to incorporate into corporate events. How big of a role does Social Media play in your business? It is very important. It’s almost surpris- ing to me how many clients follow me on Instagram. This is the best way for me to reach all of my clients if I have products or something new and exciting that I want to share. I always put it up on social media. Facebook, keeping web- sites up-to-date, making sure that people can see the transformations of spaces is all very important. We are all visual, and it is really difficult for people to see everything in scale, so when you’re able to show them pictures of the space that you’ve been able to transform, it makes it more relatable. 34 For someone who is new in the industry and thinking about becoming a décor specialist, what tips would you offer to them? I think it is just a matter of working alongside a reputable company and learning the secrets of the trade. The suc- cess of my company is largely because of the people that I network with. I make sure that I don’t overcommit myself and I really respect the different vendors in my community. I am not a planner, I am a decorator… I can’t be good at everything. I think one of the downfalls we see in this industry is people trying to do too much. It is very challenging to do everything well, so you need to decide what you will focus on and work towards it. Relying on and aligning with people that do the things that are outside of your area of expertise well is critical. Focus on what you have a passion for... If you a have a passion for planning, then plan. If you have a passion for doing décor, then do décor.
