AMELIA JENSEN

My exploration of waters as a fly fisher has been an incredible journey through color, textures and movement. I have a passion to express what I see outdoors in my paintings. Watercolor has been the perfect medium for me to do this. I can easily explore vibrancy in color and movement through the mixing and flowing of paint and water on the paper.

For me there are similarities between fly fishing and watercolor painting. In watercolor painting the timing and control of when to add more or less water to create a certain effect and when to put the brushes down as to not overwork a piece can be everything to the overall success of a painting. The same holds true with fly fishing. There's a time to refrain from casting to not spook a cycling trout, a time to change your presentation and simply just waiting on your back cast.

I'm drawn to paint expressive color values in my paintings to create a bold and vibrant end result.

Painting for me is a way of sharing with others certain moments and feelings and special fish from my time on the water. There's so much beauty in the natural world and expressing that in my paintings brings me a lot of creative joy. My hope is that the visual effects I create can do the same for others.
