Fall time in Chugiak
How do you envision the industry changing in the next few years, and how is our company preparing for these changes? I see our industry evolving rapidly with the integration of AI, from smarter operational systems to innovations like the barista robots I saw at the NRA Food Show. These tools have the potential to improve efficiency, consistency, and how we serve our customers. At the same time, I believe AI should be embraced thoughtfully, as a resource that supports people, not replaces them. Our focus is on using it to strengthen our business while creating more opportunities for our team, our industry partners, and our community. If we approach it with intention, it can be a powerful driver of both growth and connection.
What’ s one piece of advice you wish someone had given you early in your career, and how are you applying that now?
I wish someone had told me that you can’ t be everything to everyone, and that’ s okay. I spent too much time trying to be liked, instead of focusing on making the right decisions. Over time, I learned that business is business, and clear boundaries actually build respect, not resentment. Today, I apply that by being more direct, setting expectations early, and not avoiding tough conversations. It will create a stronger leader and a more authentic one.
You have a magic wand and can instantly fix one challenge in our industry, what do you choose? I would fix the cost pressures that are making it so difficult for our industry to stay profitable, especially things like liquor liability insurance and rising product costs. Those challenges are putting real strain on businesses that are already working hard to take core of their teams and customers. Our industry is resilient, but it shouldn’ t have to fight that hard just to break even. Removing that pressure would allow businesses to focus on growth, innovation, and their people. At the end of the day, a stronger industry means stronger communities.
What’ s your go-to-method for celebrating team wins? We use our Team Chat as a central hub, so calling out success in the moment makes it visible and meaningful. I love seeing others jump in with their own kudos, it builds energy and reinforces that we’ re all part of the win. It’ s simple, but it creates a strong sense of connection and appreciation.
Just a couple of hobbies- anything on / in the water
How do you keep work fun without losing focus? I believe you can have both, if you’ re intentional about it. I try to create an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves, celebrating wins, and enjoying the work we do together. When people feel supported and energized, they tend to do their best work.
