MOOSE A ’ LA MODE
INTERVIEW WITH BRANDI HARMON
Tell me a little about the history of Moose A ’ La Mode :
My husband Marty and I purchased Moose A ’ la Mode , a cafe located in the middle of beautiful , downtown Anchorage , on January 6 , 2020 , yes right before Covid-19 hit . What timing , huh ? Having been “ carnies ”, pushing around our food trucks ( Tiki Pete ’ s Alaskan Grill ) from festival to party to wedding to concert and the like , we were excited to really drop our roots into a classic brick and mortar . With it ’ s small , but loyal following , we knew we could turn Moose A ’ la Mode from a quick cup of Jo on the go to a truly Alaskan dining experience . Offering our impressive menu within the scope of a cafe kitchen setup is no easy feat , but as a devoted husband-wife duo , we are determined to bring some truly unique and delicious flavors to locals and tourists alike .
What ’ s your most popular menu item ?
That ’ s a loaded question ! In terms of our most popular breakfast item , our Alaska Burrito , which is chock full of reindeer sausage , is definitely a go-to choice for the business person in a rush . For lunch , the daring and brave may choose to venture into our spicy and bold Smoking Yeti panini ! The hearty and hungry are drawn to our K . St Cheesesteak in its impressive size , melty-cheesy-steaky goodness !
Our generous portioned freshly made salads have a strong following , too . Those with a sweet tooth know to come in early to snag one of Marty ’ s baked goods . With availability depleting in mere minutes , getting your hands on a warm , delicious , homemade cinnamon roll , scone , or cupcake seems to be as easy as spotting a unicorn . An easier question to answer would be our least popular items , which is anything that we don ’ t make in-house , which are very limited .
Why did you join Alaska CHARR ?
We joined CHARR to be a part of the community . When Covid-19 kept hitting , we turned to CHARR for information and resources . We found CHARR to be most helpful to navigate us through such unknown territory . CHARR kept us informed when mandates changed and about funding resources . We are truly thankful for CHARR .
What ’ s the biggest struggle you ’ re facing in the industry right now ?
The biggest struggle we ’ re facing right now is balancing our workload . Weekends are for the food trucks , and weekdays are for the cafe . We find ourselves short-staffed daily and we seem to be getting busier each day , too . We ’ re always looking to add wonderful , happy-spirited , clean-freaks to our team of dedicated staff .
