Happy New Year from all of us at Kodiak CHARR .
First City Homeless Day Shelter
We can only hope 2022 will bring a semblance of order to our world and cause the problems of the past two years to fade away .
While we haven ’ t been as active this past year we are doing better than the year before .
Ketchikan CHARR took over the Gross-Alaska Ketchikan Coliseum Theater on Saturday , December 18 , 2021 to collect donations for First City Homeless Day Shelter . Admission to see the Secret Life of Pets movie was 1 non-perishable food item per person .
We were able to fund free bus rides to and from the fairgrounds for ‘ Warm August Night ’, the Lion ’ s club yearly night of bands , food , drinks and fun . These round trip bus rides start at 5:00 p . m . and run until 1:00 a . m . and a lot of people take advantage of this mode of transportation .
After canceling our Free Cab Ride Program last year , due to COVID matters , we have it slated for this year and are putting everything together . We run this Free Cab Program from 6:00 p . m . until 6:00 a . m . Our goal , as usual , is to offer a way for our patrons to return home safely and give them the chance to enjoy themselves while ringing in the New Year We also like the fact that DUI ’ s are next to none on this night .
We were also able to donate substantial amounts to a couple of worthy non-profits in our area .
Our Kodiak Members who attended the convention in Las Vegas , all enjoyed a great time . Thanks to Sarah and Kirsten and the very capable staff at Alaska CHARR for getting it all together .
