I love providing a reason to get kids into school . I have heard many times from students that my class , or the current recipe they are working on is a motivating force to get them to school that day . I also like that I can provide a nontraditional education that non-traditional students can find success in .

What ’ s your favorite thing about being a Culinary Educator ?
I love teaching culinary and ProStart at the high school level . Not all of my students are headed to a career in the industry , but I know that all of my students will use the things I have taught them . It has been a blessing to work at

Service High School – Melinda Dooley
What brought you to teach at your current High School ?
I began my teaching career in middle school in Atlanta , Georgia . I taught at three different schools and at my last school I had the privilege of helping to design the kitchens , purchase all the equipment and supplies . After this experience and 21 years of middle school I was ready for a change . I moved to Alaska and began the search for a High School position . Service High School had an opening , I applied and was hired . It is an amazing school and I enjoy the challenge of working in High School .
