What inspired your latest track, “What’s New”?
“This question made me laugh a bit because all of my songs are very subliminal . “What’s New” was pretty much inspired by a conversation I had with one of my friends. We were talking about how tired we are of men who come to us with hidden agendas and how they all slide in with the same techniques hence the title ‘What’s New’.”
If she were to place her music in a specific category, it would be alternative R&B. She personally considers herself a big trap girl, but will listen to anything that gives her good vibes.
Her song W/U received a lot of hype when she posted it on her personal Instagram page. It received more than 3000 views and continuous reposts. She wrote and recorded this track in less than 4 hours in the spur of spontaneousness. “I remember not even being able to sleep that night when I released it because of how overwhelming the response was, I smile every time I think of it. It was really all so beautiful.”
Currently Chana is working on a couple of songs that she is really excited to release. If she were to collaborate with any of the Namibian artists at the moment, she would want to work with; DJ Dreas, Devitchi , Champ, Yung Glo and Raffy. She believes the vibes that their music gives off would work really well with hers.
Quite a number of young Namibian artists are coming out of the wood works and releasing new music, such as yourself. What’s your take on young artists changing the game in the Namibian music industry?
“Underground Namibian artists are going to change the game completely. We are going to put Namibia on the map. Young artists need to learn to support each other too, this is not the survival of the fittest. We all want our music to be heard across the world and a little support goes a long way, especially when it comes from a fellow artist. We also need to learn to work with each other and not just aim to work with the well-known already established Namibian artists.”
