CHRISTIAN EPPES

The start of the new semester had some issues for our JCL chapter. Snow days really hurt us, but we were not going to let this be a setback. On January 26th our chapter hosted a movie night for the club and any other student at our school who wanted to come. As a club we decided to watch a Roman themed movie. There was much debate, but what we all decided on was the much-acclaimed comedy, A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to The Forum. A lot of our club members had never even seen this movie, so it was a perfect choice. To go with our Roman themed movie our club thought it would be perfect for us to have snacks as we watched. So, as we watched our movie, we munched on nachos. Our club sponsor, Mrs. Baglio, thought a nacho bar would be perfect, and it was.

On February 14th our chapter thought it would be a great idea to have a love poetry night. We opened this event to anyone at our school who wanted to read poetry or just come and listen to it. People who wanted to read had to read in a different language, or, if they didn’t know any other language, read in English. Our chapter had decided to provide a concession’s area. We sold coffee, hot chocolate, brownies, crackers, cookies, etc... Our school’s media center teachers were nice enough to allow our club to use the media center to host this event. Many people volunteered to read poems aloud. Some students read in Latin, a few students read in Spanish, and we even had a student read a poem in German. Even our sponsor, Mrs. Baglio, read a poem in Latin.

Our chapter has lots planned before State Convention. We are decorating livers to celebrate the Lupercalia, we are going to do our Pies of March to commemorate Julius Caesar’s assassination, and some fundraising in-between. Our chapter is getting hyped for State Convention. Meeting friends, competing in contests, and having a wonderful time with fellow GJCL chapters is what we love about going each year. We are so excited and can’t wait.
