it will challenge the ideas you've unfairly held about how the world operates.
Take an elective or two that's not related to the sciences. This advice is directed to the pre-health students. No, psychology and sociology 101 don't count. Expose yourself to disciplines which produced great thinkers and learn from what they have contributed to world policies and to the notions of other people from our communities whom we have learned from.
This process of stepping outside your comfort zone is a personal one, and will not be the same for everyone. But, it is my hope that each of you can start this journey and become self-thinkers, able to make independent decisions and contribute to your communities as leaders and not just as followers. I pray to Allah to grant you success in this jihad of the self, and may He accept our acts of obedience to Him. And may Allah send blessings on His Noble Prophet, his purified progeny, and his notable companions.
