Long Gallery Tub Chair
A scoop back tub chair, the gracefully upholstered curved back with nail trim decoration, the upholstered
seat on square tapering legs with brass cappings and castors. After a George III original, circa 1780.
Inspired by an original depicted in an 1892 photograph of the Long Gallery at Althorp by H. Bedford
Lemere. This classic English occasional chair design originated in the late 18th century and although the
original designer is not known, many examples were produced by Gillows of Lancaster. It was used as a
games chair, desk chair or occasional chair.
