AL40079 The Cross-Sabre Chair An ‘Admiralty’ chair, the crossed carved and gilt sabre back supporting an upholstered shield, above an upholstered drop-in seat, on sabre legs terminating with brass cappings. Inspired by the 2nd Earl Spencer, appointed 1st Lord of the Admiralty in 1795. The iconic sword motif which adorns this piece is inspired by Nelson’s gift to Lavinia, Countess Spencer of a sword captured in one of his early successes at the Battle of St Vincent.
