S
udhanshu, a multitalented
student was not only a
topper in academics but
was an outstanding athlete as
well. Due to his multifaceted
personality his cupboard was
brimming with medals and
trophies won at various athletic
meets and competitions held
over the past years. He held the
school records for the 100 meters
running race as well as the 100
meters free stroke in swimming.
Like every year, the annual sports
meet was announced by the
school. Many students registered
their names for their favourite
sports and also began practising
rigorously. As usual, Sudhanshu
too registered for his two pet
events. But this year his friends
compelled him to try his hand at
steeple chase. Being the supreme

athlete that he was, he too felt confident of
winning it although he would be participating in
such a race for the first time.
The day of the meet finally arrived and the
school stadium was filled with friends and family
of the participants. The cheer leaders and the
school band added to the already charged
atmosphere. Soon the sports teacher announced
the schedule of the day and the first event which
was 100-meter free style swimming. Having held
complete monopoly over the event, there were
very few challengers to Sudhanshu and he won
the race quite comfortably. Next was the 100
meter dash. Here too Sudhanshu won but had to
put in his best efforts to ward off the challenge
from one of his batch mates. It was his
experience that helped him win eventually.
Finally it was the turn of the steeple chase. With
two gold medals already to his credit, the
atmosphere in the stands was fully charged in
anticipation of a first ever hat trick of gold
medals by any athlete in the history of the
school. Cheers of SU-DHAN-SHU, SU-DHAN-SHU
