PRESENTING TRISH ABRAMS AS RABBI AND TEACHER IN ISRAEL
Presented by Rabbi Scott“ Shalom” Klein, Ed. D., Chaplain( CPT), United States Army
To witness a colleague answer the call of Semikhah is a joy; to witness a fellow soldier do so is a profound inspiration. It is my distinct honor to present Trish Abrams for ordination— a moment that marks not just the completion of a curriculum, but the consecration of a life dedicated to the spiritual readiness of the American Soldier.
Trish’ s rabbinate was not born in a classroom, but in the field. I have seen her future as a rabbi reflected in her tireless service across the force. Whether she was leading holiday services at Fort Drum, Fort Hood, or Fort Belvoir, she consistently demonstrated a unique ability to create a " home away from home " for our troops. In those moments— standing in transient chapels and motor pools— I saw her transform into the incredible rabbi she is today: a leader who provides a stabilizing, holy presence for those who sacrifice so much for our nation.
Our bond was further forged during the grueling months of the Chaplain Basic Officer Leadership Course( CHBOLC). In an environment designed to push officers to their physical and mental limits, Trish’ s leadership was a beacon. She navigated the rigors of training with a resilience that never compromised her deep commitment to pluralism. She ensured that every soldier, regardless of their background, felt seen and supported.
As you transition from a 1st Lieutenant to a Rabbi, I offer you a blessing from the heart of our shared tradition:“ Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”( Deuteronomy 31:6)
May you continue to lead with the courage of a soldier and the empathy of a spiritual guide. May your service be a Kiddush Hashem, and may you always find the strength to do " hard things " in the service of the Holy One and the United States Army.
Mazel Tov, Rabbi Abrams. I am honored to call you my colleague and my sister-in-arms.
