Increase in Output
by Michael Dean
Michael examines the factory upgrades to a popular
Power Distributor sold by Austar Models and reviewed in
a previous Airborne article.
At first glance there appears no difference from
previous mini power distributor units, but closer inspection highlights the changes which I consider a
step forward for this brand of products with the overall basic operating principles remaining the same as
previous units reviewed.
The new units are constructed in the same way,
that being a three tiered circuit PCB boards with all
circuitry contained between each layer and servo
leads access via the top tier. Side by side this unit
is physically longer in length and width and naturally gained a little weight at 20g over the previous
power unit. The overall thickness however been reduced due to the removal of the heatsink and fitting
of an alloy base. The centre receiver compartment
is also larger and you could easily fit two standard
receivers side by side on the foam rubber insulation
pad and Velcro receiver strap.
So What's The Difference?
The two variations are denoted by their colour.
Introduction
It was only a few months ago that I reviewed a
Power Distributor from RCCSKJ and Austar Models and it appear that a lot can change in just such
a short period of time! I received a call from Steve
at Austars who was keen for me to check out the
latest in power distributor design from the manufacturer. This was the result of discussions and
recommendations from the suppliers and end
users of the products. It is so refreshing to see a
company take on board suggestions from users of
their products and even better
