several careers that don’t require medical training. We have IT team
members, social workers, interpreters, facilities maintenance, and
administrative and clerical positions in admissions and scheduling.
Being a part of helping children can be very fulfilling. Some of our
team members get to know the patients on a very personal level.”
Patients and their families will have access to services including phys-
ical therapy, a chapel and pastoral care, gardens, trails, and even a
playroom and other interactive features designed just for kids.
“Children aren’t little adults,” Spies explains. “We offer programs
and care tailored just for them. Our hospital staff includes child life
specialists, who are specially trained to help young patients and their
families cope with the challenges that can come with an illness or
having to be in the hospital.”
Spies says before the new hospital was built, patients had to travel
all the way to Little Rock for care. “That travel disrupts the lives of our
patients and their families. More than 200,000 children live in the 11
counties around Northwest Arkansas, and it’s important for them to
have access to specialized care here at home. By building the new
hospital in Springdale, most families have quick access. More than
70% of people in Benton and Washington counties are within a 30
minute drive of our campus.”
Economists predict the
number of healthcare
jobs in Northwest
Arkansas will grow
as more people move
to our area and the
demand for health
care goes up. They
project healthcare will
be one of the fastest
growing job sectors
in our region over
the next few years.
Arkansas Children’s
Northwest has created more than 250 new jobs and represents a
$427.7 million investment in our community.
The hospital, located between Interstate 49 and Arvest Ballpark, sits
on 37 acres of land donated by David and Cathy (George) Evans,
Gary and Robin George and their families. Many other generous do-
nors helped make the hospital a reality through their financial support.
