One of APAC-Central’ s largest current projects is the expansion of Interstate 49 through Northwest Arkansas. I-49 will ultimately create a 1,700-mile highway from Canada all the way to the port of New Orleans.
APAC-Central is part of Oldcastle Materials, the leading supplier of asphalt, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and construction and paving services in the United States. Our local headquarters is in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but you can find our family of companies in nearly every state.
The company makes the materials that help transform our cities, and the roads that connect them. APAC employees help build better, stronger communities across the nation, and the company is always looking for hard working and motivated young people to join our team.
What We Do The work APAC does in the building materials business begins in our quarries, where rock is extracted from the ground using controlled explosions. The rock is then crushed and processed into stone of various sizes, known as aggregates, which are used to make asphalt and ready-mix concrete.
Grading and pipe foreman Daniel Rodriguez, a skilled track hoe operator and 23-year APAC- Central veteran, is part of the team working on the local I-49 expansion. He and his four-man crew are removing excess dirt from the middle of I-49 and installing drainage.
“ I’ m doing a job I love,” he said.“ There is nothing else I want to do but be on my machine. I like to take my kids out and show them what I’ ve helped build.”
In APAC’ s laboratory, the staff tests construction materials and final products to make sure the materials meet quality requirements.
For lab manager Steven Sharp, it’ s the opportunity to tackle new challenges daily along with his team of eight that has kept him coming back for 10 years.
“ It’ s a different thing every day,” Sharp said.“ You’ re not stuck inside.”
What We’ re Looking For No matter what you’ re interested in, there’ s a place for you at APAC. Our people work in every aspect of the business: mining and crushing the rock from our quarries, leading operations at our plants, laying asphalt and concrete to build roads and buildings, and working in our laboratories.
