Laura Ramirez, who handles human resources and payroll for the plant, knows firsthand about opportunities for moving up in a career at the company.
Ramirez started with South Coast as a receptionist. Since she had some experience with payroll at another company, she started working on that aspect of the company, with human resources duties following.
“ You need to be self motivated,” Ramirez said.“ If you see a need, do it. Don’ t wait for someone to tell you to do it. Don’ t be afraid. Step up.”
South Coast Baking is headquartered in California and employs about 160 people at its Springdale location, which ships its products locally and to the eastern half of the United States.
The company is looking for employees who can handle more responsibility as the business grows, Taylor said. Prospective employees ideally would have taken classes in science and math and realize how those apply to real life, and the job, Taylor added. Teamwork and leadership skills are also needed.
“ You have to work as a team,” Chappell said.
South Coast offers team members good benefits, including health insurance and a 401( k) retirement savings plan.
If you are interested in starting a career at South Coast Baking, apply by downloading an application at the company’ s website and mailing it to the Springdale plant. You can also email the plant to ask about career opportunities.
Applicants will be successful if they have a good work ethic, Chappell said.
“ You must be willing to learn,” Zuniga said.“ If you don’ t want to learn, you won’ t do well.”
“ Attitude is a big part of the job,” Oliver said.“ You have to be prepared to move forward but still be patient. Remember it’ s a team you are working with.”
