Architecture is often an exercise in meeting challenges . Whether it ’ s a difficult building site , meeting code and zoning requirements or working within a tight budget , architects use their skills and experience to find solutions . Our approach to planning the ninth annual Experience Architecture event , taking place Oct . 6-11 , was no different .
We assembled our team , assessed the context and conditions of the event , and started the framework . It was clear this year ’ s event would be different . Our planning committee has shown great resilience , thoughtfully developing new ways to adapt our programs and activities to a virtual format to keep our participants safe while continuing our mission to elevate architectural awareness to the general public , design enthusiasts , students and the design community .
We are incredibly excited to share this year ’ s event lineup ! Programs and activities cover a wide range of topics including : the future of restaurants ; equity in healthcare ; architecture as a catalyst for change ; a look at the evolution of R Street in Sacramento ; and an evening with MASS Design Group , an architecture firm dedicated to expanding access to design that is purposeful , healing and hopeful .
There ’ s no need to ride a bike to participate in Tour d ’ Architecture this year — just hop online and enjoy our pre-recorded ride . Our Design | Access program will feature video tours released throughout the week , and our virtual Kid ’ s Draw program is led by acting State Architect Ida Clair , AIA along with yours truly at the California State Capitol — which we are delighted to be sharing with children and families across our state .
