Specialized vendors provide the hospital with data tools that typically require larger budgets.“ When we work with partners, we look for companies that understand the constraints of smaller, resource-limited markets. Integration is critical. Data must move seamlessly between outpatient clinics and the hospital to reduce errors during care transitions.”
Direction of automation
The current IT strategy focuses on four key initiatives with AI tools: ambient documentation, automated call centers, text synthesis for health records, and revenue cycle optimization. James shares,“ We are introducing ambient documentation tools that capture patient conversations and generate draft notes for clinicians. That reduces the amount of time doctors spend documenting after hours. We’ ve also automated parts of the call center, giving patients access to scheduling and portal support around the clock and helping reduce waiting times. When the results came in, I actually went back and checked them again; they were that strong,” he shares.
“ We picked these four priorities because they address our biggest operational headaches: admin burden, patient access, data gaps, and financial leakage. With ambient AI scribes, the way patients and providers interact has changed. Instead of staring at a screen and typing, our clinicians can look patients in the eye and focus on care. The AI listens securely and creates accurate notes in real time. That’ s my main focus.”
James is mapping out a multiyear plan to move systems to cloud environments and expand data analytics, coordinating these updates to safeguard financial sustainability while driving innovation in health tracking. Changes to state and federal policies add new compliance requirements, often forcing updates to existing software.
