Healthcare systems face constant pressure from regulations, staffing shortages, rising costs, and emerging technology. Leaders must align care delivery with legal requirements across large regions. At West Tennessee Healthcare, this means supporting more than 100 rural locations and over half a million people. Ann Lundy, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, operates at this intersection, guiding strategy with patient care as the focus.
For Ann, the work starts with a simple question that shapes every decision she makes.“ I begin by asking,‘ What is right for the patient?’ The regulatory side often follows organically,” Ann explains.
Her role connects legal oversight with delivering daily care. She works with executives, clinicians, and operations leaders to ensure compliance supports care rather than slowing it. The work links directly to how services reach patients across rural communities.
From bedside to boardroom
Ann started her career in nursing and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas. During her studies, a legal nursing course caught her attention and shifted her path.“ I enjoyed the conversations in that class very much,” she recalls.
