PRESENTATION
Ecodesign for air handling units
Starting January 1st, 2016, new air handling units shall comply with Ecodesign
requirements.
Air handling units regulation
For air handling units (defined as units replacing air in a building), two Ecodesign product regulations already apply, setting
minimum efficiency for electric motors and for fan motor assemblies.
The new regulation is going further. It is addressing the energy performance of ventilation units and sets energy performance
requirements for complete unit including fans, filters and a Heat Recovery System based on SFPint (specific fan power inside
the unit) limit fixed by the regulation.
There will be a next step in January 2018 with higher requirements.
The regulation is addressing :
• Residential Ventilation Units (RVU) with flow rate up to 250 m3/h (64, 4 L/s) or up to 1000 m3/h ( 277.8 L/s) when the
manufacturer declares its use exclusively for residential application.
• Non Residential Ventilation Units (NRVU) with flow rate greater than 250 m3/h (64, 4 L/s) or 1000 m3/h (277.8 L/s). Non
Residential Ventilation Units (NRVU) include Unidirectional Ventilation Units (UVU - supply or extract units) and
Bidirectional Ventilation Units (BVU - double deck supply and extract units):
Unidirectional Ventilation Units
Supply unit + free exhaust
Exhaust unit + free supply
