Auburn ’ s Sigma Pi Brothers Keep Coming Through for America ’ s Heroes !

By Thomas Gerhardstein , Auburn University ’ 22
For several years now the Alpha-Delta chapter of Sigma Pi at Auburn University has been working with AHERO through various events and fundraisers . Everything seemed to stop at once as COVID-19 first hit last year , but we knew that the needs of our wounded Veterans did not . Our Sigma Pi brothers were constrained from their usual hard-driving fundraising activities which , for a period of time , were considered unsafe .
Then – the moment Auburn University deemed it safe enough to run one – we began planning .
Our first fundraiser of this spring ’ s semester was through our local Chipotle .
This was a one-night event that allowed the chapter brothers and the community to participate by just buying a meal . Chipotle gave a percentage of every meal sold that night to support AHERO . A ton of people ordered food that night , but we missed the fellowship of sharing the meal with Veterans and members of AHERO ’ s all-volunteer staff due to limits on capacity .
Additionally , we hosted a donation-based car wash at our fraternity house , putting ourselves to work for a great cause . A number of brothers advertised along the street , while others washed and dried the constant flow of cars we had all day . Our work generated $ 2250 dollars , which helped fund AHERO ’ s second annual Orange Beach Warrior Hook-up weekend , during which 20 Veterans enjoyed a deep-sea fishing trip and good times just being together .
AHERO provides palpable results for the money we raise , which encourages us to do more so they can too . During the upcoming fall semester we will continue developing ways to raise money by connecting with the great people at AHERO , and hosting events in order to provide all we can so they can do their best work . Due to health concerns this year , we were unable to meet with staff members in person .
Now we are looking forward to this fall ’ s opportunities and those in the future to work with them again on behalf of our Veterans !

By now , it ’ s a Pensacola area golfing tradition .

Registration will begin at 8 a . m . that day , but last year we all witnessed how quickly the team slots filled up . So to get a drop on the rush , you can visit AHEROusa . org right now to reserve your spot . The tournament format will be the aforementioned classic four-man scramble with an exciting shotgun start at 10 a . m . Bring
