The pass by the mirror... A glimpse of the beauty that is you and the all so sudden urge to pull out the high resolution camera phone to take a quick pic takes your body over. You strike a quick pose, possibly pout your lips and, with a simple click of a button, BAM a brand new self taken photo occupies the memory of your phone. Then the best part... the super simple few clicks it takes to upload the photo to your social media pages so that others may basque in the ambiance of your glorious new upload.
This has become what we now know as taking a selfie. The word "Selfie" has become one of the most popular words in pop-culture as of recent, even garnering the honor of being dubbed as 2013's word of the year and, although 2014 is here, the word seems like it's not going anywhere. Selfies have gone as viral as viral can possibly get. Studies have shown selfies are the most uploaded genre of pictures on instagram... We know it's no surprise, but have you seen the youtube sensation "Selfie" Music video by The Chainsmokers (*WARNING* Once you watch it you can't unwatch it).
Many may see it as a form of narcissism and think those that partake in it are nothing more than self absorbed humans looking for others to feed into their egos, but truth be told more than half of teenagers who participated in a recent poll expressed their growth in confidence and explained it as a form of self expression. So what's so harmful some may ask, I say if you don't like them, don't look! As long as it's tasteful and nothing you may regret in your future, go ahead and take that selfie. No matter how you feel on the subject it seems selfies are here to stay.
