Love and Honor:
Living in God’s Presence
“Let my Life Be the proof, of Your love. Let my life look like You and what YOU are made of.”
-Proof of Your Love, For King and Country
As believers we often strive to become closer to God and to live in His presence. We pray, we fast, we read the bible and still we feel like we’re getting nowhere fast. I would like to submit to you two powerful kingdom principles, the very foundation of the kingdom of heaven; Love and Honor.
Love, this word has become common in modern society. It is used to express a strong liking or approval of a person, place, or thing. A word that is meant to carry so much weight has progressively turned into something fickle and meaningless. First Corinthians 13 states “If I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such [a]as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. (AMP)” We could have all the riches in the world but if we don’t have love we are bankrupt. You could have an incredible gift of knowledge and wisdom, but if you don’t have love you are nothing. You may be asking "how can I begin to love?" How can I be sure that I am already living in love? The answer is simple. Have you successfully killed the “I” in you? The biggest enemy of love is selfishness. We are living in a self- sufficient society where everything revolves around the individual and not enough revolves around the group as a hole. It is all about who can get to the top regardless of how many people you step on to get there. Jesus, however, taught us to do the exact opposite.
Jesus constantly lived in God’s presence. Religion has made it a point to teach that it is solely because he fasted and prayed for long periods of time, making it nearly impossible for any believer to live up to the standard. When you study Jesus and you study his works, you realize that his connection with God the Father came from a relationship founded on communication (prayer), faith, and love. Jesus lived a life of prayer which is essential in every Christian’s life.
